Harry le Roy

I know this has already been done, Act 4 Scene 1, but its the most interesting scene to me considering that Henry gets to see how the commoners view him as and how they act when he’s not around. The scene begins with Henry deciding to disguise himself with Erpingham’s dirty cloak after a meeting with his advisors. I fail to see the understanding of why no one questioned why he wanted to borrow his cloak, but I guess no one questions the King. As he sends them off to his royal tent, he goes out to sit at a campfire and observes while pretending to be one of the common soldiers. As he’s just sitting idle, Pistol happens to walk by and praise him while insulting Fluellen and Henry’s secret identity, Harry le Roy. After Pistol’s interesting conversation with Henry, he leaves while throwing up the fico gesture towards him. Fluellen and Gower walk by, not noticing Henry. As Gower greets Fluellen, but Fluellen demands that Gower speaks lightly since they are near the enemies. Then the next to come are three common soldiers by the names of John Bates, Alexander Court, and Michael Williams. Its amazing to me that they do not recognize the King’s face and tell him, as Harry le Roy, that they don’t have faith in the King. Henry defends himself and exchanges gloves with William to make a deal that they plan to fight each other if they both live through the battle. I think that its an awesome way to show the intent that they would like to fight each other by exchanging gloves. Henry’s faith in God is also interesting to me and makes him a likeable character in my eyes. He has good character and is fitting to be King.
